School Readiness Initiative

Ready to Learn

All 16 School Districts in York County participate in the School Readiness Initiative because they understand that high quality early childhood education will make the transition to kindergarten easier for children and families.

Teachers and principals from area school districts have attended joint training sessions with early childhood educators on the PA Early Learning Standards, which link what the children learn in pre-kindergarten with what they will learn in kindergarten. Some school districts have developed written plans that spell out how they will work with the early childhood education providers in their districts. In addition school districts partnered with early childhood education providers to develop a school readiness resource magnet that highlights simple things parents can do to help their child be ready for kindergarten.

Focus On Our Future worked with other agencies across the state to develop a toolkit for teachers to help children transition to kindergarten.  The state also developed the “Kindergarten, Here I Come” resource guide for families.
