Week of the Young Child

Week of the Young Child is an annual event focusing attention on York County’s commitment to young children.  The week consists of public education events and culminates with an early childhood education recognition event and awards ceremony.

• This event is sponsored each year by Focus On Our Future, in conjunction with the York Area Association for the Education of Young Children (YAAEYC).
• During the 2007 week, the second annual Family Poetry Reading took place at Martin Library with U.S. Representative Todd Platts, York Mayor John Brenner, Fox 43 News anchor Heather Warner reading and York County School of Technology early childhood education students engaging children in art activities.
• Hedda Sharapan from Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood, Family Communications, Inc., emphasized the importance of relationships for the emotional, social and intellectual development of young children.  
• Nearly 100 providers were recognized at the April 2007 event, and over 300 attended.
