Volunteer Spotlight: You!
April is National Volunteer Month, the perfect time to recognize the positive work that you as volunteers do in our community!
Over the last year, volunteering has meant more than just shoveling a neighbor's driveway or helping paint the walls at a local shelter. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought us back to the basics: Ensuring our neighbors and friends have food on the table, a roof overhead, and resources to count on. The current estimated value of a volunteer hour in Pennsylvania is $25.41. Each time you volunteer, you're creating a meaningful impact for our neighbors in need and our community as a whole.
Global Youth Service Day
United Way of York County was proud to partner with three local nonprofits for Global Youth Service Day, an opportunity for youth from throughout York County to help improve our community through acts of service. GYSD is perfect for sports teams, volunteer, faith-based or school groups, Bigs and Littles, and anyone who wants to lend a hand! We were pleased to support projects on April 23 and 24 at:
Outdoor Grounds Clean Up at Leg Up Farm
Codorus Creek Clean-Up with Lower Susquehanna River Keeper
Garden Bed Refresh with York Fresh Food Farms
Stay tuned for additional opportunities and plans for next year!
Other Volunteer Resources
Day of Action is one of the largest volunteer events in York County. Each year, United Way of York County joins with hundreds of other United Ways around the world to mobilize citizens in service to their local communities. Local companies are encouraged to give employees the day or part of the day off from work so that employees can volunteer and see first-hand how important volunteering is to local organizations! Visit the Day of Action page for more information.
